My brother confirmed under a microscope that they are red mites, atleast it was the closest match...

We've knocked them back with Pestene and Permethrin based fly/surface sprays, waiting for coopex and other products and we'll go nuts... there's some still in our own house (from being naive and leaving clothing/shoes in laundry/bathroom.. we're getting there, I only have a few bites on me, my parents have more but they didn't do any of the cleanup... wierd.. maybe the bites are a co-incidence but they're in places a mozzie cannot get to (groin, armpit etc).
