Pekin bantam chicks - what colour is the one with black on him??
The Pekin hen is buff and in the photos there is also "Nana Speck", a silky/ leghorn bantam who has taken over the 4 chicks now that mother hen has dismissed them. Four babies now 8 weeks old. There looks to be 2 roosters and 2 hens by the difference in the combs. One looks to be colours like Dad and the rest are buff like Mum. A rooster and hen pair (both buff) are for sale and a friend is taking the coloured rooster chick and a hen.
Thanks so much for your comment ruff that my boy may be a Furness. The one chick of the four looks a lot like him. I got the rooster and hen as 3-day old unsexed chicks from Shane at Shoalhaven Poultry Group and 3 more of the 5 baby chicks turned out to be roosters also but with Shane's help we were able to find homes for the 3 roosters that I could not keep. Moth is very bossy. I'd love to get some other colours but it is only for fun. Reading the article here on sexing makes me think that obvious differences in the combs are not going to be a valid way of sexing.

i thought that is where you got them....they are my lines. the gold and whites are dominant white a very new colour in pekins which i started....enjoy. they are looking good.
I'd really like to know more. Following Shayne's advice I am trying to order the Pekin Bantam book promoted on their web site. Maybe then I will know a little more. I do like their personalities. Moth is a very dominant rooster but a good Dad and still calls the chicks when he finds an interesting snack. He was sooooo interested in the chicks when they hatched so I separated Precious (hen) with the chicks but 2 weeks later when I put them back in with him, he was still craning his neck to see them and it was just so he could be a good Dad. They are pretty spoilt chicks with Nana Speck (my incubator who is silky/leghorn) who raised Precious and Moth from 3 days of age also spoiling the chicks now. Precious is also good but has finished official mothering duties. So basically spoilt chicks.
You say gold and whites. The other 3 chicks are all buff aren't they? One has more white on her or I think it's a "her". It was suggested that the boy chick (well he has a bigger comb) with black on him is a Lemon Crele.
